Welcome to the World of Porcelain Art!

HAVE PAINT BRUSH - WILL TRAVEL

Seminars are available.  I like to lecture, demonstrate and work constantly around the table giving individual attention to any problem areas.  I try not to do much painting on your piece so that it is truly your work when the seminar is completed.  We have all taken seminars that the next day when the kiln is unloaded, every piece looks like the teachers because the teacher has corrected so much while we were sleeping, it is no longer even recognizable as our work.  If I do make a correction, I will ask you to wipe it off and redo that section yourself so you can learn the method or technique.  I share all that I know and constantly learn right along with my students.

FEES:  Charges are $150 per day for a seminar.  I will take up to 10 students in a class.  I also charge for transportation; gas for my van or an airline ticket.  I would rather drive if at all possible.  I also need board and room with one of your members. One day seminars are available, however most subjects take at least three days.

SUBJECTS: I love animals.  Therefore they are my favorite to paint and have become my specialty.  My studies focus on good fur texture, detailed eyes, and include interesting backgrounds.  Each study has line drawings and sketches to help you understand the different parts of the animal.  You can choose from bear, deer, elk, buffalo, moose, raccoon, wolves, and Rocky Mountain sheep.  If you would like another animal, let me know.  I will work up a study for it.  I have done several African animals like giraffe and elephant as well.

Birds: I do a head portrait and full view of an eagle.  I also have studies of blue jay, cardinal (male and female) and several different backyard feeder birds.  In 2003, I learned to do parrots which are colorful and fun.  Thanks Jeanette Gulickson.

Flowers: I have several workshops on various flowers.  The rose portrait gives us experience in "seeing" our subject.  Iris are my favorite flower and I have many views adaptable to vases or tiles for framing.  The orchid plaque makes a nice study on a Dresden style plaque that uses a combination of Victorian colors for the detailed edging.  Other flower studies can be done on request.  Check out the "flower page" at this site.

Christmas Ornaments: This is a 3-day seminar where you complete six to eight ornaments using a variety of techniques on both bisque and glazed porcelain. Structure paste, glass jewels, gold and penwork all aid in producing lovely heirlooms.

Stepping Out in Porcelain Shoes: This is a 3-day seminar where you will complete several porcelain shoes.  They range in size from a large shoe vase (9") to the small 3 1/2" display shoe. We work in luster, structure paste, gold, and penwork to make unusual designs in addition to traditional china painting designs.

Porcelain Leather: Using porcelain slip, we hand mold a large flower which is glazed and painted before we are done.  This must be a four day seminar and will take two high fires (2235F) during the greenware to bisque to glaze steps.  I try to share my experience so you won't suffer through the same mistakes I made.  The flowers can be added to a large vase that is finished with structure paste to complete the design if you wish, or the completed flowers can just be displayed on your favorite doily.

If you would like colored photos of what is offered to help you decide your seminar subject, just let us know.
