welcome to the world of porcelain art!

watercolors by Maryann

The watercolor medium is an excellent medium to make studies for future porcelain projects as well as Maryann's medium of choice for just plain fun.  It is time to let go and let the creative juices flow.  We have framed original watercolors on this page and some of  the unframed "fun works".  Maryann tries to work up her "Project-of-the-Month" designs in watercolor before preparing the lesson.

Watercolor lessons are offered in four week sessions several times a year.  The classes are deliberately kept small so there is time for one-on-one instruction if desired.  Students are taught basic watercolor techniques; various types of watercolor papers available and their uses, brush strokes, wet-in-wet and glazing, use of salt, tissue and other things to make your finished works truly one of a kind.  Call for more information and check the home page for current sessions.

This old store was located in Fall River County of SD and a photo was taken 30 years ago by Maryann. It has since been torn down.  "Smithwick Store" took first place in the watercolor division of the Black Hills Art Association biannual show in October, 2004.

I call this watercolor "Pueblo Iris".  In July of 2002, during the annual Teacher recertification course at the University of Colorado SW Campus at Pueblo, I watched a demonstration by Andrew Orr.  Andrew is an exceptional artist who works in all mediums with galleries in Vermont and Georgia.  He was an inspiration.  After the days events, Vida (of Vida's Collectibles) and I went back to our dorm rooms and painted our own "master pieces".  Thank you Andrew for your inspiration and sharing your gifts.  (Not For Sale)

Watch here for more watercolors.  Others currently available are "Fall Moose", "Fishing on a Foggy Morning", "Pink Poinsettias", "In Search of the Narwahl", and many others untitled.  As soon as the artist can figure our her new digital camera....pictures will show up here of these and others for sale.

These hollyhocks were painted from inspiration of the hollyhocks blooming outside the car barn door.  I came home from town with work to do, but couldn't resist capturing these lovely flowers.  The house work will wait!!!
